In our effort to bring you a great selection of layouts for you to visit we came to realize that every layout has something to offer. Of course, some offer more than others and the layouts of Grand Rails 2012 are no exception. Our goal is to present to you the broadest possible cross section of layouts for you to visit.
Our layouts include those with little or no scenery but have been planned very well to follow their prototype very closely. While others, though well planned, follow no specific prototype but adhere to prototype practice and have great scenery. Still others have a little of each or everything going for them.
Some of our layouts are “Old School” with lots of track to allow trains to run through a variety of mini scenes while the operator “railfans”. Others have been in existence for many years so they retain some of the “old School” flavor but have evolved into prototypically operated transportation systems.
We have single deck, multi-deck, decks hanging from the ceiling and layouts built on the ground, even layouts running trains you can ride on. Some are controlled with a “power pack” while others use Digital Command Control. One of the layouts is even built as a development tool for computer control.
We have layouts with very prototypical Centralized Traffic Control systems and one with five monitors that create a virtual CTC panel.
The Layouts of Grand Rails 2012 are no different than other locations when it comes to space utilization. Our layouts can be found in spaces ranging from basements with low open ceilings, tight isles and narrow stairways to others that reside in rooms built just for the layout.
All of the layouts open for you at Grand Rails 2012 are presented by owners who posses a broad range of talent and experience but have that one key ingredient in common, not just with each other but with you, and that is of course, the love of model railroading.
So please, enjoy your visit to the layouts of Grand Rails 2012.
Presented here is a list of the layouts that will be open during Grand Rails 2012 arranged by area. The list will continue to grow as we complete our review and photography sessions.
